Pros and cons of Canadian Geographic app for iPhone and iPad

Canadian Geographic app good for

I was able to read the free trial issue, ok, on my iPod touch 4 th gen. Dont think I would pay the $6.99 to $12.99 that is wanted for the digital monthly issues, when you can get the printed yearly (6 issues) for the advertised rate of around $24. Since there is no printing or distribution costs with the digital versions, these should only cost around $1.50.
I spent a couple of years in anticipation of buying an iPad so I could read my favourite magazines on it. Of course, I love my iPad for many other reasons too but a prominent joy is Canadian Geographic, and Macleans, along with Outdoor Photographer, The Tablet and the occasional Newsweek magazine. In my experience Canadian Geographic downloads fairly quickly and I can start reading the first few pages almost instantly. It is also on my iPhone although the small screen does not do justice to the stunning photographs. It declutters my life not to have the print versions of magazines filling up every space, as I had trouble parting with them. Now I can carry around a multitude in a very compact device. Keep up the good work!
Proud to be 100% Canadian. Even more now since I subscribed to this magazine. Great stories and articles from folks who really care about my beautiful country. The photos are amazing and its a great deal. I recommend.

Some bad moments

Are you kidding with these prices?? Can you say "ripoff"? Instant delete for this app.
The app wont load. I have deleted the app and tried again and received the same thing.Very disappointing. Cannot purchase previous issues. Ridiculous
Cant access my subscription to read on iPad... Disappointing. Deleting and not renewing my paper subscription. Nat. Geos app works flawlessly
Ive had a subscription to the hard copy for years and they are telling me I have to pay again so I can get it on my iPad (full price) They have lost a customer, not renewing my subscription They need to learn how to keep customers happy
Several serious problems with this: The app (the "reader") is very buggy, especially as regards download abilities and speed -- frequent failures during downloads, long and slow download times. App support is spotty and slow, and almost always consists of the same advice -- "delete, reinstall, redownload", which is followed, when these dont work (which they usually dont), by manual intervention by the support staff to "populate" your account with the missing or incomplete issues, a process which can take upwards of a week. Issue availability lags the availability of the print issue by several months -- probably as a result of the following. This "subscription" has no connection whatever with the original Canadian Geographic Magazine (CGM). In fact, CGM, when contacted, will explicitly distance themselves from any involvement with this iPad version/subscription. It is in fact from a UK company called Pocketmags which, presumably, license the content from CGM, and then create a digital image of the print copy of the magazine. This means that the user sees only a digital copy of the magazine which, in full-page mode, is difficult to read on the iPad unless one zooms in for a larger font, which then forces the user to scroll the page within the iPad screen to read an article. Readers should be aware that this is definitely NOT an iPad version of the magazine in the same sense that, for example, National Geographic or Backpacker Magazine are, with iPad-optimized and/or iPad-enhanced content. CGM is a great magazine, if your interests run in that direction, but is very definitely better read in the original print format. On the iPad it just hasnt been well implemented at all. Finally, Apple and the App Store need to make it abundantly clear in their store descriptions of the product what the user is actually purchasing, and from whom. Especially, they should be making clear which "subscriptions" are true iPad subscriptions (check out the afore-mentioned Nat Geo & Backpacker for examples) directly from their respective publishers, and which are third-party digitizations of print materials. Could never download more than 39% of any issue. Keeps downloading forever and asking me for my Apple ID
